KUCHING: Lim Ong Sian and Hanif Arip were overall winners of this year’s Red Bull Go-Kart Clone Racing Series Class A and Class B respectively.

They confirmed their lead after completing the racing series at Serapi Race Track, a purpose built race track in Matang near here.

Lim finished with 767 points in Class A for kart and driver with total minimum weight of 150 kg, while Hanif accumulated 787 in Class B for kart and driver with total minimum weight of 130 kg.

Serapi Race Track management representative Calvin Eng said this 4-stroke go-kart racing series is the first of its kind in East Malaysia, with a total of 8 monthly races each year.

Races are held between March to October with participants achieving podium position similar to Formula 1in each race.

He said to make it more exciting, a point system is used for each race to qualify for yearend awards.

“Participants are awarded points based on the position they achieve in their races.

“By the final eighth race, the person with the highest points becomes the champion for the year earning Red Bull challenge trophy.

“The series is supported by Serapi Go-Karting Club and membership is open to anyone interested,” he said.

He added that the racing series helps to promote go- kart racing with the next season scheduled for March 2019.
