Workers quarters destroyed in early morning fire
SIBU: A nine-unit workers quarters was almost completely destroyed in a predawn fire at a poultry farm at Siong Gak Road here yesterday.
A Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operations centre spokesman said yesterday that Bomba Sungai Merah station deployed nine firemen and one fire engine to the scene after they received a distress call at 2.44am.
“About 90 per cent of the temporary structure occupied by 20 Indonesian workers was destroyed.”
The spokesman said all the workers managed to run to safety.
The fire was put under control at 3.30am. The department is investigating the cause of fire and determining the losses.
