DO wants quick action to help areas in Bau affected by storm, heavy rain

BAU: Immediate action must be taken to help several areas in Bau district affected by the storm and heavy rain on Monday, said Bau district officer Anielia Siam.

She said around eight trees were reported to have fell and hit an electric pole which caused a blackout at several houses in the district.

“Many areas had lost their power supply due to outages caused by the fallen trees.

“Efforts were carried out immediatel­y last night (Monday) by clearing the fallen trees and this continued until today (yesterday),” she told reporters when met a er the Bau District Level Community Policing Programme which was officiated by Serumbu assemblyma­n Miro

Simuh at Libiki Bamboo Resort here yesterday.

In light of the incident, Miro together with Tasik Biru assemblyma­n Datuk Henry Harry Jinep donated three chainsaws to the Civil Defence Force (APM) and Bau Fire and Rescue Station (Bomba) to clear the fallen trees.

Miro said this immediate assistance was rendered due to the shortage of chainsaws at the two agencies.

“This assistance is not only to assist APM and Bomba with yesterday’s ( Monday) incident but also any future incidents that may need such equipment,” he added.

Meanwhile, Bomba Bau chief Tawang Lingem expressed his appreciati­on to the two assemblyme­n for donating the chainsaws which would greatly facilitate the Bomba officers in clearing the fallen trees as soon as possible.

“We carried out works to cut up the fallen trees since last night until the morning but a er that, the chainsaws we used had overheated.

“We are grateful for the assistance given by YB Miro and Datuk Henry in donating us the chainsaws so that it makes it easier for us to carry out our duties for the community,” he said.

Among the areas in Bau affected by the storm on Monday were Singgai, Jagoi, Krokong and Serembu.
