ThePeak speaks Dr Sa­muel Wong of The Teng En­sem­ble and dis­cov­ers what drives this ac­claimed mu­si­cal group to cel­e­brate the rich his­tory and di­verse her­itage of Sin­ga­pore. Dr Sa­muel Wong is clear about what The Teng En­sem­ble does. “Be­sides be­ing an East meets West en­sem­ble, we also merge the tra­di­tional with the mod­ern. We work with her­itage pieces, as well as old works, to give them a new sound. We also put a spin on con­tem­po­rary pieces with our tra­di­tional in­stru­ments,” he ex­plains of the en­sem­ble. The mu­si­cal group from Sin­ga­pore has been mak­ing waves on the in­ter­na­tional mu­sic scene with its unique blend of sound that recre­ates tra­di­tional folk songs for a mod­ern au­di­ence.
