Now, here’s something new to try when you’re hankering for a gin and tonic: the surprise winner of the Gin & Tonic Trophy at the recent International Wine and Spirit Competition, GINSTR – Stuttgart Dry stood out from a field of more than 600 different gin distillers from 90 countries, the first time this highly regarded prize went to Germany.

Having been on the market for only 18 months, the brand started as a hobby by distillers Alexander Franke and Markus Escher. Made in small batches in their own distillery, the duo uses juniper berries they have grown themselves along with ingredients from the Stuttgart region. The brand’s success should not have been such a surprise as GINSTR received the gold medal at the World Spirits Award earlier this year.
