First it was the Swatch Group that announced that it would be pulling out of Baselworld. Now, both Audemars Piguet and Richard Mille have stated that 2019 will be their last at the Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie Genève (SIHH) held in January every year. The reason for their departure, for Richard Mille at least, was that the watchmaker no longer feels that exhibition is a good fit for its overall brand and sales strategy. As for Audemars Piguet, CEO François-Henry Bennahmias says its strategy will focus on speaking directly to end customers and not the industry itself.
