iriver un­veils new e-reader

THE lat­est e-reader from South Korea’s iriver Inc, the Cover Story, is speedy and has a touch­screen.

The book-sized de­vice’s 6in dis­play, which uses E-Ink technology, has a res­o­lu­tion of 800 x 600-pix­els and eight lev­els of greyscale.

The Cover Story sup­ports pop­u­lar e-book for­mats such as EPUB, FB2, PDF and DJVU as well as Word, Excel and Pow­erPoint files. It can also view im­ages in JPEG, PNG, GIF and BMP for­mats.

As it comes pre­in­stalled with English Ox­ford Learner’s Ad­vanced Dic­tio­nary, users can just high­light a word on an e-book to find out its mean­ing.

Apart from dou­bling up as an au­dio player for play­ing MP3, WMA and OGG au­dio files, the Cover Story can also record au­dio in MP3 for­mat.

The de­vice comes with a sty­lus which can be used to scrib­ble text and draw on the screen. It also has a vir­tual key­board for text in­put.

A built-in ac­cel­er­a­tor also helps ori­en­tate the dis­play au­to­mat­i­cally depend­ing on how it’s held.

The Cover Story comes built-in with 2GB of me­mory which can be ex­panded by an­other 32GB via the SHDC card slot.

In terms of bat­tery life, the de­vice will give users up to 11,000 page turns on a sin­gle charge.

The Cover Story is avail­able only in white but its de­tach­able mag­netic screen cover comes in a va­ri­ety of colours such as sil­ver, green, pink, red, white and black.
