THIS autumn/winter, Dr Denim introduces three new collections to cater for all types of denim lovers. A popular Swedish jeans line known for its fit, the brand is the collective vision of the Graah family – Morten, Johannes and Alexander – that was established in 2003. It is currently sold in more than 20 countries.

If you’re into the classic, preppy look, opt for Dr Denim’s “welldressed gentleman” line which combines traditional preppy elements with vibrant colour and quirkiness. Tops come in a variety of greens, blues, violets and greys. The collection draws inspiration from college life in the 1950s.

For the more rustic and roughand-tumble working man, check out the “working class hero” line where the tops carry a very rough edge (think lumber jacks!) but with contemporary detail and fittings. Colours range from reds and blues, but there are also dashes of violets and greens found in the preppy collection. Fabrics are heavier and have a rustic feel about them – checkered flannels are, naturally, an essential component of the “working class” theme.

The haute culture collection is more sophisticated, drawing inspiration from art-gallery dwellers. The line conveys a sense of calm, where less is definitely more. A contrast to this is the women’s 90s rock/grunge line which pays a nod to the grunge era of the early 90s. Destroyed denim washes are a big feature of this collection.

The range of bottoms for men is extensive: from slim-fitted pants to vintage loose fits, essential preppy chinos to garage-rock tight black jeans. If extreme is not your game, there are regular-fit denims available.

Heavy authentic selvage fabrics are widely used in the collection and go well with the checkered flannel shirts or even the dressed-up preppy tops.

For women, the silhouette remains tight with regular waistlines. Washes range from unwashed stretch denim to destroyed vintage washes. The collection has dark and coated denim, rinsed-washed denim as well as denim with bleached and destroyed finishes.

Blue and grey are key as are denims that are garment dyed in greys, olive, violet and dark blue. Vintage washes play on a combination of 90s grunge and traditional vintage inspiration, in harmony with the work wear-inspired tops collection. – By S.Indramalar n Priced from RM99, Dr Denim is sold at Materiel outlets in Isetan, The Gardens and Parkson at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur.

Heavy authentic selvage fabrics are used in the collection and they go well with checkered flannel shirts.

If preppy is your style, opt for Dr Denim’s well-dressed gentlemen line.

For the ‘working-class’ hero. Up in the air: A burst of colour adds pizzazz to Dr Denim’s autumn/ winter 2010 collection.

A touch of quirky.
