Fresh and clean

The Star Malaysia - Star2 - - WOMAN -

Can you advise what basic skincare regimen a guy should be following? – David L’Oreal Paris training manager Carolyn Yeo says most Malaysian men normally have oily skin, while some have combination skin. Due to our hot and humid weather, it is undeniable that men need to cleanse their skin thoroughly.

Use a proper facial cleanser, either in foam or gel texture to cleanse your skin. This will help to remove all the oil, sweat and dirt stuck on the surface of the skin. Cleanse your face two to three times a day for your skin to stay fresh and clean.

Secondly, spare a moment to apply moisturiser on cleansed skin. This comes in various textures: gel, light fluid/lotion and light cream. Choose the texture which best suits your skin type and preference. For example, for oily skin, use either a gel or something with a light fluid texture. These kind absorb well, and feel fresh and comfortable. Moisturisers will give your skin moisture (hydration) that will help to reduce dryness, dullness and lines/wrinkles. It’s like drinking water and feeling quenched. When your skin has enough hydration, it will reveal a healthier glow. Use a moisturiser two times a day after cleansing.

If you are particular about your skin, you could add on a toner before moisturising. This will help to refresh the skin, and some types of toner also help to tighten pores. However, most men normally skip this step as they prefer something quick and easy to use.

Once you approach your 30s, you may need to avoid lines/wrinkles and dark circles around the eye area. Use proper eye care treatment (depending on your eye concerns) to combat these problems. Use twice a day for younger-looking and brighter eyes.

Another essential need would be a facial scrub. This helps to remove dull dead cells and blackheads, giving your skin a cleaner, brighter and smoother feel. Use two times a week before moisturiser. HERE’S a chance to get your ‘always wanted to know but didn’t know who to ask’ beauty questions tackled. Please include your name, address and contact number. All the best to your beauty quest! I have very limp and fine hair. I’ve been using different types of shampoo and hair oil, but the condition of my hair doesn’t seem to improve at all. It lacks shine and lustre. Is there any product in the market which will make my hair more lustrous? – Sangeetha

L’Oreal Paris will be giving David Pure & Matte Black Foam, Pore Minimizing Matifying Toner, Anti Mark Gel Cream, Anti Mark Roll On and Brighten Eye Roll On, all together worth RM119.50.

People with fine hair usually find their hair limp, says Linda Har, L’Oreal Professionnel technical commercial manager. Sometimes, it’s also associated with an oily scalp.

If you have excessive oil on your scalp and very fine hair, the excessive sebum (scalp natural oil) will travel down the hair shaft making the hair oily and limp, especially if you have short hair.

Don’t use products that are too heavy or overload your hair with too many products. Use the correct product that gives you enough volume but won’t weigh down your hair.

Hair loses its lustre when it begins to get sensitised. That’s when the hair cuticles (outer layer of hair scales) rise or open up, and light is not reflected from the hair shaft, making it look dull.

The Serie Nature Cacao range may improve your limp hair condition. But, the lack of shine is probably due to the sensitisation of the hair.

Using a hair mask like the Serie Nature Cacao Masque two to three times for the first two weeks after shampooing will help. Serie Nature Cacao contains cacao extract, renowned for its tonifying properties, and is designed for women with fine and lifeless hair.

For styling, TechniArt Volume Mousse can be used for blow-drying and TechniArt Hairspray used near the hair roots will help to hold the hairstyle.

L’Oreal Professionnel will be giving Sangeetha a Serie Nature Cacao Shampoo and Cacao Masque, and TechniArt Volume Mousse, all together worth RM173.
