THE universal player to potentially slay every other multi-format player is here. The Ayre DX-5 – designated an A/V Engine – promises to play back virtually all optical digital formats, video or audio, with computer connectivity to boot.

It will tackle CD, SACD, DVD-Audio/Video, Blu-ray, MP3, while an asynchronous transfer mode USB input allows transmission of up to 24-bit/192-kHz resolution. Then, there are two HDMI outputs for both AV and audio-only applications, plus an Ethernet port for BD Live features and firmware updates.

This technological marvel uses Ayre’s exclusive Minimum Phase digital filter, and features single-pass 16-times oversampling, discrete decoding and playback of all formats in their native domain, ultra-low jitter master clocks, zero-feedback/fully-balanced discrete circuitry and total electrical isolation between video, computer audio, and analogue audio sections.

The separate transformers for analogue audio and video circuitry are equipped with Ayre’s acclaimed RFI filters, taking performance up a few notches.

And where to find this magical machine? Call Hi-WayLaser(% 019-2813399) to be enlightened.

Cutting edge: Ayre’s DX-5, possibly the last optical disc player you’ll ever need.
