Skincare for men
It is very important to invest in proper skincare products rather than just a bar of soap.
Indeed, the beauty ritual that a woman goes through can seem quite intimidating to a guy, says Biotherm trainer Vanessa Tan, especially when there are so many different products out there for different skin needs. It is very important to invest in proper skincare products rather than just a normal bar of soap, which is usually too drying for the skin because it has a higher alkaline content.
Biotherm Homme, a brand that has specialised in men’s care for 25 years, offers easy and effective skincare solutions for men. Nowadays, more and more men are realising the benefits of caring for their skin, the largest organ on the human body.
One important reason why men need to have a proper skincare routine instead of just using soap is that men shave frequently. As such, they need to prepare their skin before they shave in order to prevent razor burns, and protect their skin after shaving. This is because the process of shaving strips off the moisture layer of the skin, making it more vulnerable to external aggression.
Biotherm Homme recognises that men have a slightly thicker skin structure compared with women. Therefore, they need products with a different formulation and texture to suit their skin’s need.

Biotherm will be giving Yew the Aquapower moisturiser worth RM140. I HAVE visibly open pores. When I use a clay mask to minimise them, my skin feels rough. Why is that? I’m really dumbfounded because I’ve no other skin problem except for the open pores. Please help. – Intan According to Michelle Kong, Clarins beauty and education manager, this situation happens mainly due to skin dehydration which usually results in rough skin texture.
There are different types of clay masks available in the market. Different types will have a different effect on the skin surface, for example, the ones that remain creamy throughout is not as dehydrating compared with the ones that dry up.
The duration that the mask is left on should be taken into consideration. For most cases, masks are to be placed on the face for about 10 to 15 minutes. When it is placed for an extended period of time, the skin will become dehydrated.
Deep-cleansing masks, like clay masks, are to be used only once or twice a week at most. It is always advisable to alternate this with a hydration mask to rehydrate and plump up the skin, which will also help to refine pore size.
Since your concerns are so specific, perhaps you should consider a pore-minimising serum to rebalance and regulate oil secretion, and refine skin texture.
Clarins will be giving Intan a Hydra-Quench Cream Mask worth RM142.
