THE death of CD, some would say, has been vastly ex­ag­ger­ated but from the way hi-fi man­u­fac­tur­ers are jump­ing on the net­work player/streamer band­wagon, you could be ex­cused for think­ing they’re in panic mode.

The ven­er­a­ble Naim Au­dio of Bri­tain (now un­der the Fo­cal group), how­ever, hasn’t aban­doned the sil­ver disc, even as it shores up its fu­ture prospects with an in­creas­ing line of me­dia play­ers. The lat­est in this line is the ND5 XS net­work player, which of­fers every­thing to keep you from miss­ing CD in fu­ture!

The ND5, ac­cord­ing to Naim, is a net­work-con­nected sep­a­rate source, of­fer­ing UPnP stream­ing of up to 24-bit/192kHz res­o­lu­tion over a do­mes­tic net­work, ei­ther from net­work-at­tached stor­age (NAS) or a hard disk player/server (yes, like Naim’s
