State of TAD
NOT every audiophile can afford the system of his dreams but for those who can, there are a handful to aspire to, components with breathtaking performance matched only by their price tag.
Take, for example, Technical Audio Devices Laboratories Inc (or TAD), Pioneer Technology’s boutique marque. Cutting-edge engineering promises a realistic and immersive experience ... but you expect such qualities at this end of the pool.
The D600 disc player, for example, is touted as a new reference and sports an ultra-highprecision crystal generator master clock for accurate D/A conversion and jitter reduction. It is built into a rigid die-cast aluminium chassis, with a separate power supply.
The TAD C2000 preamp, meanwhile, complements the M600, M2500 and M4300 amplifiers with its five key attributes of purity, stability, innovation, accuracy and elegance. The M4300 (four-channel) and M2500 (two-channel) power amps use Class D circuitry in a completely balanced structure and are equipped with large toroidal transformers that use high quality, grain-oriented steel for superior magnetic saturation, even during high power output.
At the heart of the TAD Reference One speaker is the proprietary Coherent Sound Transducer (CST) that delivers a frequency range of 250Hz to 100kHz. The midrange cone and tweeter dome of the CST are made from beryllium for strength and superior damping. A smaller version of this speaker is the Compact Reference.
