IF you are looking for a more minimalistic and edgy style, the latest collection from Dude & The Duchess is just the thing for you. The homegrown label has unveiled a capsule release of street chic womenswear – designed by Malaysian designer Jonathan Liang, who is currently based in Paris.

Named D&D x JL, it is described to be a collection of accessible high fashion styles. It promises modern day women comprehensive looks, with a range of pulled together essentials that can transition from day to night.

“The collection celebrates what every woman has in her: beauty and that edge factor without even having to try. It’s all about a polished attitude with a street vibe,” comments 25year-old Liang.

This is the first collaboration for Dude & The Duchess since its founding in 2008. The label believes in supporting like-minded talent, and found the collaborative effort to be a perfect fit.

A statement from Dude & The Duchess reads: “Liang’s designs and style resonate with (our) brand’s belief in good tailoring and construction, particularly when it comes to quality and attention to detail.”

Liang is said to have drawn inspiration from elements of flora and fauna adapting to their environment – camouflaged insects, for example. The designs stay true to Liang’s style that is both minimalist yet wearable, with clean silhouettes and strong cuts.

D&D x JL also highlights Liang’s signature use of mixed fabrics and textures. As such, the collection resonates with a sophisticated style, but yet holds an edge and versatility that suits the “rebel” within a woman. Made in Malaysia and Italy, the designs are produced in limited quantities. They also feature minimal stitching, which are all hidden to create a sleeker finish, with a colour palette that ranges from monochromes and pastels, to other bold shades.

Some standout pieces include a flared kimono top with a peplum effect and pencil skirt with silk organza detailing, as well a printed T-shirt featuring an original illustration capturing the essence of nature by French artist Anne Nouchka.

Described to be the pièce de résistance of the collection are some shift dresses and crop tops, which come with delicate lace work, beading and fabrication.

A stunning gown with a high neckline and a low ruffled back is a key high-fashion piece as well.

The D&D x JL Capsule Collection retails from RM209 to RM899 and is stocked at Dude & The Duchess stores in Bangsar Village II and Publika Mall (KL), and on its e-store (dudeandthe It will also be available at Springsioux in le Marais, Paris.
