Towards music excellence
BERKLEE College of Music in Boston, the United States, is a renowned college delivering only the highest standards in music education.
Established in 1945, Berklee has grown to be the largest private college specialising in the art and science of music.
To date, 100 Berklee alumni have received 231 Grammy Awards. They include names such as John Mayer, Bruce Hornsby, Quincy Jones, Steve Vai and Dixie Chicks and Esperanza Spalding.
Because of its reputation in producing successful musicians, it has been the dream of many, if not all, musicians to study with the best. Berklee attracts students of high musical proficiency from all over the globe. Admission is highly competitive, giving admissions personnel a challenge of selecting only 800 students from a total application of 2,000 every intake.
However, ICOM students have an advantage over other students not only in Malaysia but worldwide, including students from the US. Berklee and ICOM have had a long relationship, which is evident in the articulation agreement between both institutions.
Being in partnership since 1997, ICOM has groomed and trained students for a Berklee education. As of today, ICOM has successfully transferred hundreds of students to Berklee through its Berklee Transfer Program – a unique programme and the first of its kind in Asia.
Having seen the high academic standards and enrolment of students, Berklee offers ICOM students a full articulation of the first two years of education at Berklee.
This means that students who successfully complete the ICOM Berklee Transfer Program will automatically gain credit transfers for the first two years at Berklee.
ICOM graduates will only spend another two years at Berklee to complete their Bachelor of Music awarded by Berklee College of Music. This exclusive partnership allows students to save over 60% of the overall cost of education at Berklee. ICOM students are also more prepared to move into the third year at Berklee with confidence. Due to the high standards of the ICOM education experience, a large number of ICOM students achieve the Dean’s List at Berklee.
“This is the true testament of the ICOM Experience,” says ICOM course leader Nilesh Thomas. “ICOM students gain a wonderful musical experience while studying at ICOM and are equipped to continue their studies at Berklee.”
One of the many privileges of attending ICOM is that students have the opportunity to audition for scholarship money from Berklee for their third and final year at ICOM.
“Berklee comes to ICOM every year to offer our students scholarships based on proficiency in their instrument. Many ICOM students in the past have received scholarships up to 50% of their tuition fees at Berklee. This scholarship is really useful for both parents and students,” says operations vice-president Datuk Ravimaran Savari.
With over 20 different nationalities represented, ICOM is Asia’s leading college of music. With an excellent track record of achievements in education together with state-of-the-art facilities and highly qualified and experienced teaching staff, ICOM is an excellent choice for those who wish to pursue music education at the highest standards.
ICOM also offers the Bachelor of Music (Hons) Professional Music, a validated undergraduate programme by University of Wolverhampton, UK, Diploma in Business – Music Industry and Certificate in Audio Production. Admission for the January 2014 intake is now open. Closing date for application for Malaysian students is Dec 20.
