cAN bak­ing be a re­ward­ing ca­reer? Bread is one of the ma­jor sta­ple foods in many cul­tures around the world.

Bread mak­ing is a com­bi­na­tion of art and science be­cause it in­volves cre­ativ­ity to pro­duce dif­fer­ent flavours, shapes, sizes as well as some science knowl­edge to pro­duce dif­fer­ent tex­tures.

With the re­cent de­mand for healthy and ingredients-en­hanced breads, bak­ers around the world are pro­duc­ing more bread va­ri­eties.

Pro­fes­sional bak­ers can be at­tached to five-star ho­tels, bread mak­ing fac­to­ries, flour man­u­fac­tur­ing com­pa­nies, fine din­ing restau­rants, pas­try shops or even to run their own bak­ery shop.

With such flour­ish­ing ca­reer prospects, more and more stu­dents are in­ter­ested in tak­ing cour­ses per­tain­ing to this field. The more cre­ative and pas­sion­ate you are in your job, the more you get paid.

In five-star ho­tels, an ex­ec­u­tive pas­try chef can eas­ily earn a six­fig­ure salary. There is a range of pay scales for chefs but a per­son who has years of ex­pe­ri­ence in the in­dus­try can earn more.
