In this age of selfies and all-aboutme’s there’s a group of people who think nothing of sacrificing their time or money so that someone or some cause benefits.

These people who choose to do volunteer work for causes they believe in may come from different backgrounds, but they share common ground in the idea of giving back to their community.

in line with The Star’s direction in highlighting inspiring news and driving change in the community, the publication launched the “Do Good. Volunteer” campaign in March 2012.

Then in July that year it officially launched the “Do Good. Volunteer” portal, an online volunteer matching portal that is an initiative by The Star in collaboration with its subsidiary, Leaderonomics, a social enterprise specialising in leadership development.

it is a highly interactive portal that offers volunteers a host of volunteering opportunities with non-profit organisations in Malaysia.

This year Star2’ s volunteer-themed stories also included corporations or organisations that actively promote volunteerism among their employees or as part of their business model.

in these pages, we celebrate some of the do-gooders from all over Malaysia who have had a busy and productive year working for various causes and making positive change for those in need.
