Making a debut
THE up-and-coming American designer has opened debut stores in two new markets recently, the United Kingdom and China. The 3.1 Phillip Lim label unveiled its debut 3,200-squarefoot (297 sq m) store at 91 Pelham Street, in London’s luxurious South Kensington neighbourhood. The store’s design, carried out by Londonbased interior firm Campaign, features bright white walls which contrast with a gray concrete floor with brass and onyx blue inlay detailing.
The designer has signed a deal with Club 21 in the UK which will see the company open a number of 3.1 Phillip Lim locations in the country, including another London location in 2014.
This week, Lim also feted the opening of his Beijing store, his first standalone in the country, with a 500-person party in the Chinese capital. The American designer, who is himself of Chinese descent, described his core customers as “cool, easy, chic – I’ve seen them everywhere in the world,” he explained to WWD.
