Put empty toilet and kitchen rolls to good use

InSTEAd of throwing away that cardboard centre from your toilet or kitchen roll, save them up and put them to use.

Plant starter

Snip toilet rolls into two pieces and kitchen rolls into three pieces.

Set on the sides in a plastic tray (a kitty litter tray is cheap and easy to source). Fill with soil, sprinkle in seed, cover with soil and sprinkle with water. When your seeds sprout, plant the whole tube into your garden or a bigger pot – the cardboard will decompose naturally.

Scarf holder

Collect kitchen rolls and scraps of pretty fabric. When you have six or so, cut fabric so it will cover the roll and reach an inch or more inside too.

Spread a little superglue on the inside (watch your fingers!) and place the fabric so that it covers the outside cardboard as well as the visible interior.

Leave to dry overnight. now bunch tubes together and tie with strong ribbon, at least one inch thick.

If necessary, secure with a dot of superglue. Hang it from the back of your bedroom door and stuff with scarves.
