Introducing a diploma in engineering
FOR Malaysia as well as countries in the Asia Pacific Rim, several critical design and development (D&D) areas in electrical, electronic and mechanical engineering are essential to propel productivity and help the countries to progress.
In this fast changing world, innovative engineering programmes are greatly needed to focus on training undergraduates to become creative and competent professionals.
SEGi College Penang took an industry-driven leap to offer Bachelor’s degree courses in Electronic and Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering in collaboration with the University of Sunderland, UK.
The main aim is to train and develop competent problem solvers.
With the overwhelming student population growth for these two degree studies, the college is now introducing its Diploma in Electronic and Electrical Programme in Jan 2014 for fresh school leavers.
Faculty of Engineering head Dr Wong said in the pursuit to produce highly sought-after graduates to support the cuttingedge Design and Development endeavour for local industries, the college in collaboration with industrial professionals was setting up an Industrial Computing and Automation Process Design Centre of Excellence.
He said the programmes were supported by a team of experienced faculty members recruited from relevant industries and industry advisors with engineering design background.
“We engaged experienced quality professionals because
We engage experienced quality professionals with engineering design backgrounds.
the emphasis is on competencybased and application-oriented approach for training and performance assessment.
“This approach is geared towards the goal of generating a more industry-relevant skilled workforce to support the local and international engineering based industries,” added Dr Wong who has been in engineering education for over two decades.
Apart from new modern engineering laboratories, the faculty is also equipped with the latest engineering simulation and design software such as AutoCAD, ANSYS, MATLAB, HYPERWORKS, SCADA and Programmable Automation Controllers (PAC).
The college also provides SEGisphere, University of Sunderland SunSpace and Ebrary On-line Learning Resource systems for students doing their research work.
Students interested in becoming professional engineers in the fields of Electronic, Electrical, Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering are urged to visit the SEGi Faculty of Engineering at 43, Green Hall in Penang or contact the course counsellor or Ms Ch’ng at 04-2633888.
SEGi strives to train and develop competent problem solvers through its Engineering courses.
