Handy and compact vacuum cleaner

RISING populations, urban living and less space have resulted in us living in more compact spaces while busy lifestyles leave us little time to spare.

Making the most of every inch and every minute are key to compact living.

It is not just about how you furnish your home, keeping a small space clean and tidy can help to create a more welcoming environment.

For British technology company Dyson, developing solutions for smaller spaces is a core part of its £1.5mil (RM8mil) a week research and development programme.

James Dyson, founder and inventor of the bagless vacuum cleaner and bladeless fan, notes that “global attitudes to technology are starting to change. People want better technology. Technology that makes their lives easier and all in more compact, energy efficient forms”.

The technology entrepreneur challenged his 1,500-strong engineering team to find a solution.

The result was a cordless vacuum cleaner – the Dyson Digital Slim. It lives up to its name: the slender design and wall-mounted charging dock mean it can be easily attached to the wall or in a cupboard in your home, ready to go at a moment’s notice – perfect for quick clean-ups.

Some conventional cordless vacuum cleaners put the heavy components – the motor, the battery – at the base of the machine restricting it to floor cleaning. But in a small space, versatility is key. The secret behind the DC44 is the Dyson digital motor – half the size of conventional motors with twice the power.

It is controlled by a microprocessor that makes 6,000 decisions a second to optimise performance.

This is a miniature revolution. With the tiny motor, the machine weighs in at just 2.3kg.

By putting these components in the palm of your hand, the machine becomes easy to lift for cleaning on high areas as well as floor.

Whether it is cobwebs from the ceiling, cleaning the air conditioning vents or getting crumbs off the sofa, the DC44 adapts to the job.

When space and time are at a premium, items in the home must have several functions. The DC44 is no exception. The wand detaches and there is a range of accessories giving you a handheld cleaner that is perfect for sofas, curtains and other hard-to-reach spaces.

With no cord to plug in, you can get right to the task at hand.

Compact should not mean compromise. The DC44 has the same patented Root Cyclone technology as full-sized Dyson machines.

Dyson’s cyclone technology does not rely on bags or filters to separate dirt from the airflow.

Instead it uses centrifugal force to spin dust and dirt out of the airflow. No bulky vacuum cleaner, no more bags to buy and store and no loss of suction.

Cleaning high or low spots is easy with the DC44.
