UNITAR holds maiden con­vo­ca­tion

UNITAR In­ter­na­tional Univer­sity con­ferred 22 Mas­ter and Diploma awards at its maiden con­vo­ca­tion held in Pe­tal­ing Jaya re­cently.

The con­vo­ca­tion saw the procla­ma­tion of the univer­sity’s first chan­cel­lor, Datuk Mo­hamed Nizam Tun Ab­dul Razak.

A cor­po­rate leader, Mo­hamed Nizam is cur­rently chair­man, di­rec­tor and mem­ber of the au­dit com­mit­tee of sev­eral ma­jor pri­vate and pub­lic-listed com­pa­nies in Malaysia and Sin­ga­pore, in­clud­ing Mamee-Dou­ble Decker (M) Bhd (food), Yeo Hiap Seng Ltd (food), Asia Ex­pe­ri­ence Sdn Bhd (tourism), Healthscan Sdn Bhd (health­care), Wah Seong Group of Com­pa­nies (oil and gas) and Pe­tra En­ergy Bhd (oil and gas).

In May, he was ap­pointed re­gional ad­viser to the Union Bank of Switzer­land (UBS).

UNITAR also awarded its first hon­orary doc­tor­ate to De­fence Force chief Gen­eral Tan Sri Datuk Sri Zulk­ifeli Mohd Zin in recog­ni­tion of his work to im­prove the ed­u­ca­tion of De­fence Min­istry (Mindef) of­fi­cers through the Knowl­edge Force pro­gramme (K-Force) with UNITAR.

Cur­rently, around 1,500 Mindef of­fi­cers are pur­su­ing UNITAR pro­grammes in 11 lo­ca­tions across Malaysia.

Mo­hamed Nizam said, “The ap­point­ment is not only a great hon­our for me but also one of great per­sonal and emo­tional sig­nif­i­cance.

“I pledge to do my best as the UNITAR chan­cel­lor in up­hold­ing the good name of the univer­sity and to take this ed­u­ca­tional in­sti­tu­tion to even greater heights, re­gion­ally and in­ter­na­tion­ally”.

Mean­while, UNITAR vicechan­cel­lor Prof Dr Ab­dul Razak Habib con­grat­u­lated the stu­dents.

He said, “The whole univer­sity com­mu­nity will work pro­duc­tively and proac­tively to­wards mak­ing Unitar In­ter­na­tional Univer­sity a dis­tin­guished in­sti­tu­tion of higher learn­ing which will con­trib­ute to de­vel­op­ment, ed­u­ca­tion, eco­nomic and so­cial en­gage­ments at our new cam­pus in Ke­lana Jaya.

“Our re­cent achieve­ment is the es­tab­lish­ment of our 11th re­gional cen­tre in Malaysia, which is lo­cated in Ban­dar Tun Razak, Jengka. This rep­re­sents our com­mit­ment to our mis­sion to widen ac­cess to learn­ing.”

With the vi­sion of be­com­ing the lead­ing in­no­va­tive so­cial sciences univer­sity, UNITAR cur­rently has more than 9,000 stu­dents study­ing through­out Malaysia. with re­gional cen­tres in Kota Kinabalu, Kuch­ing, Alor Se­tar, Kota Baru, Jo­hor Baru, Ipoh, Port Dick­son, Pe­nang, Malacca and Jengka.
