WITH most na­tional ex­am­i­na­tions such as the Si­jil Pe­la­jaran Malaysia (SPM) and Si­jil Tinggi Perseko­la­han Malaysia (STPM) over, stu­dents can con­sider tak­ing part in ac­tiv­i­ties that are fun and at the same time, ben­e­fi­cial to their fu­ture.

One such ac­tiv­ity they can con­sider is to en­hance their English lan­guage pro­fi­ciency at a well-trusted lan­guage cen­tre.

ELS Lan­guage Cen­tres (ELS), an Amer­i­can in­sti­tu­tion that spe­cialises in English lan­guage prepa­ra­tion for univer­sity stud­ies, first em­barked on its mis­sion to help Malaysians im­prove their com­mand of the lan­guage in 1990.

Since then, ELS has taught more than 150,000 lo­cal and in­ter­na­tional stu­dents. ELS in­ten­sive English pro­grammes al­low stu­dents to ben­e­fit by be­ing in­volved in an English­s­peak­ing en­vi­ron­ment and of­fer an en­joy­able and pos­i­tive learn­ing ex­pe­ri­ence with a strong fo­cus on pro­duc­tive skills to boost con­fi­dence and mo­ti­va­tion.

En­joy free reg­is­tra­tion

In con­junc­tion with the school hol­i­days, stu­dents can now en­joy a waiver of the reg­is­tra­tion fee for the Jan­uary and Fe­bru­ary 2014 in­takes.

Pro­grammes of­fered at ELS are proven to as­sist stu­dents de­velop their con­fi­dence to speak the lan­guage and per­form bet­ter at school and work.

With many uni­ver­si­ties and col­leges around the world now re­quir­ing proof of English pro­fi­ciency for all non-na­tive English speak­ers upon reg­is­tra­tion, ELS of­fers prepa­ra­tion pro­grammes for TOEFL (Test of English as a For­eign Lan­guage) and IELTS (In­ter­na­tional English Lan­guage Test­ing Sys­tem).

ELS is also an IELTS and TOEFL test venue. In fact, it is one of the largest TOEFL test providers in Malaysia. Stu­dents can join the test prepa­ra­tion pro­grammes as well as reg­is­ter for the tests at ELS.

Cer­ti­fied in­ten­sive pro­gramme

For univer­sity-bound stu­dents, the Cer­ti­fied In­ten­sive English Pro­gramme (CIEP) is an ex­clu­sive full-time course ac­cepted by many col­leges and uni­ver­si­ties world­wide in place of TOEFL and IELTS as en­try re­quire­ment and al­lows stu­dents with vary­ing en­try lev­els of English pro­fi­ciency to mas­ter the lan­guage in a short pe­riod of time.

Fea­tur­ing nine lev­els from be­gin­ner to ad­vanced, the CIEP course is suit­able for stu­dents with vary­ing lev­els of English pro­fi­ciency.

For 30 hours a week, stu­dents learn to mas­ter read­ing and writ­ing skills un­der the guid­ance of a team of ded­i­cated and well­trained in­struc­tors. Stu­dents are ex­pected to gain hands-on ex­pe­ri­ence in speak­ing flu­ently through dis­cus­sions of rel­e­vant is­sues based on cur­rent and in­ter­est­ing themes.

Semi-in­ten­sive pro­gramme

For stu­dents who are in­ter­ested in a part­time course and for those with time con­straints, ELS also of­fers the Semi In­ten­sive English Pro­gramme.

Stu­dents at­tend 15 lessons of In­ten­sive English classes a week to im­prove their lan­guage skills.

Through Struc­ture and Speak­ing, Read­ing and Writ­ing, and Vo­cab­u­lary En­hance­ment, this pro­gramme en­ables stu­dents to reach their goals in the short­est time pos­si­ble.
