Weighing your UK education options
WHAT do you associate the royalty, football, English culture and academic study with? Without a doubt, the United Kingdom. This is the theme for this year’s study in UK exhibition, “Stay cool, be hip and calm, UK is the choicest destination for students and parents”.
It is that time of the year again where Education UK and JM Education Counselling Centre (JM) welcome students and parents to the annual Study in the UK exhibition in major cities throughout Malaysia – Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Johor Baru, Kuching and Kota Kinabalu.
The exhibition will be held at the following venues on these dates: G Hotel Penang (Jan 10 – 3pm to 7pm); KSL Resort Hotel, Johor Baru (Jan 11 – 1pm to 6pm); Cititel Hotel Mid Valley, Kuala Lumpur (Jan 12 – 1pm to 5pm); Palace Hotel, Kota Kinabalu (Jan 25 – 1pm to 6pm) and Four Point Sheraton, Kuching (Jan 26 – 1pm to 6pm).
There will be 18 UK institutions taking part to provide counselling and course information to aspiring students. They are Astrum Education (Chelsea Independent, Duff Miller, Lansdowne College); Bellerbys College; Birmingham City University; Cambridge Education Group; University College Birmingham; Coventry University; University of East London; University of Hertfordshire; International Study Centre (LancasterUniversity, University of Surrey, University of Sussex); Kaplan International Colleges (University of Sheffield, University of Liverpool, University of Glasgow); Nottingham Trent University; Northumbria University; University of Portsmouth; Sheffield Hallam University; University of Sunderland; University of Southampton; Swansea University and University of Wolverhampton.
The courses on offer are foundation, IGCSE and A-Level, diploma, degree and postgraduate programme in various fields.
Students and parents can meet university representatives and consult on topics such as entry requirements, career outcome, application processes, accommodation options, costs of living and scholarships.
The January 2014 intake for foundation, diploma and limited undergraduate and postgraduate studies is in progress.
It is still not too late to enrol. However, applications have to be submitted immediately to secure the limited places available.
Education UK and JM, being registered UCAS centres in Malaysia, are currently offering a nationwide UCAS application fee waiver campaign to qualified students interested to apply to leading UK universities for the September 2014 intake.

Local school and college students are welcome to take advantage of the UCAS fee waiver and comple- mentary counselling services that may not be sufficiently provided for at their places of study.
UK universities also welcome credit transfer applications from Malaysia diploma and degree holders. Cases will be assessed individually on merit subject to meeting entry requirements, matching of subjects and curriculum.
