Lewis to play Henry VIII

HOME­LAND star Damian Lewis will play Henry VIII in the minis­eries Wolf Hall, a six-part minis­eries based on Hi­lary Man­tel’s his­tor­i­cal novel tril­ogy, Va­ri­ety re­ports.

Wolf Hall will fo­cus on Thomas Cromwell, Henry VIII’s pow­er­ful coun­sel­lor, who played an es­sen­tial role in bring­ing about the English Ref­or­ma­tion of the 16th cen­tury.

Bri­tish ac­tor Mark Ry­lance ( The Other Bo­leyn Girl) will por­tray Cromwell, de­scribed in Man­tel’s nov­els as ma­nip­u­la­tive and op­por­tunis­tic.

Lewis is also slated to ap­pear in Werner Her­zog’s Queen Of The Desert along­side Ni­cole Kid­man, James Franco and Robert Pat­tin­son.

The ti­tle Wolf Hall comes from the first book in Man­tel’s tril­ogy, which ex­plores Thomas Cromwell’s for­ma­tive years and po­lit­i­cal as­cen­sion.

The minis­eries will also draw on ma­te­rial from the sec­ond book, Bring Up The Bod­ies, pub­lished in 2012, and from the forth­com­ing third book, The Mir­ror And The Light.

The minis­eries is slated to air on BBC in Bri­tain and on PBS in the United States. — AFP Re­laxnews
