(national Geographic Channel, astro Ch 553, 11pm) adolf Hitler had ordered the construction of this defensive line, a network of coastal fortifications with major ports within its perimeter, to shore up defences against the expected allied invasion of German-occupied europe. This mega project, stretching thousands of kilometres from France in the south, right up to norway in the north, not only guzzled up colossal amounts of money and materials but also huge numbers of people forced into labour. despite this, the atlantic Wall was never completed. Watch this to find out more about the vestiges of a structure that once stood as a symbol of wartime, and Germany’s eventual defeat.
