CELEBRATING the book’s 50th anniversary, Shel Silverstein’s children’s classic The Giving Tree will be released as an e-book for the first time ever on Feb 18.

The year 1964 saw four of Silverstein’s works released to the public: A Giraffe And A Half, Who Wants a Cheap Rhinoceros? and Uncle Shelby’s Zoo accompanied by The Giving Tree, following Silverstein’s debut as a children’s author the year before.

Multiple interpretations have been extracted from The Giving Tree, which centres on the relationship between a young boy and a talking tree.

Despite Silverstein’s fondness for print – and the fact that he never allowed his books to appear in paperback – The Giving Tree ebook will be the first Silverstein book to be released digitally.

“It was important to make this amazing book available to kids who primarily use e-readers and tablets and wouldn’t see it otherwise,” reasoned his nephew Mitch Myers. – AFP Relaxnews
