Great uses for old CDs

DO you have a recycling bug but don’t know what to do with old data CDs or scratched films? Check out these tips:

Easy coasters

A simple craft for kids. What you need is felt, glue and paint (spray or enamel). Paint the top of the CD in one solid colour, let it dry and decorate by painting a design or with mini stickers. Cut felt to CD size and glue on to the bottom.

Fabric coasters

A more complex craft for teens and adults. You need fabric scraps that are at least 1 cm bigger than your discs, some wide ribbon, dressmaker’s chalk, pins, needle and thread.

Iron the fabric so it’s smooth

Set a CD on a piece of fabric (making sure the pretty side faces down) and draw a chalk outline 1 cm outside of the rim. If you don’t have chalk, use a thin felt tip pen.

Cut out the fabric
