Disaster epics

The Star Malaysia - Star2 - - MOVIES -

THE eruption of Mount Vesuvius on Aug 24, AD79, laid waste to the ancient city of Pompeii, killing its citizens by the hundreds. Geologists and volcanologists concede that the volcano is overdue for another explosion. If this happens, it would be much deadlier as the Bay of Naples area has a current population of three million.

Actor Kit Harington, who stars in Pompeii – which features a love story against this tragic event – says in a telephone interview: “(Natural disasters) are a huge part of everyday life now, aren’t they? They really do affect us, be it hurricane, or tsunami. And they ... happen, unfortunately, twice yearly it seems.”

Movies with natural disasters are also aplenty. Here we pick 10 of the major ones.
