THE culinary industry is one of the most successful of the service industries in Malaysia.
Looking at the nature of the hospitality industry, the emergence of culinary tourism has seen rapid growth and this called for the need of skilled manpower in the hospitality and tourism sector of the country.
PTPL College through its School of Hospitality and Culinary Arts offers the Diploma in Culinary Arts.
The course is designed to equip students with advanced skills in the culinary arts and a strong product knowledge. They would have the ability to perform and organise food production according to established international standards.
It provides students with state-of-the-art technical skills in kitchen set-up and organisation, food product knowledge, patisserie, sensorial analysis, menu development as well as food and beverage management.
This diploma programme provides students with basic culinary and specialised skills in the area of food and management.
It also develops skills and career advancement in the rapidly expanding hospitality and food service industry.
Students are equipped with gastronomic skills and knowledge on food preparation, safety and the presentation required for entry into the food service industry.
Students should possess a pass in Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia with three credits in any subjects; or a pass certificate from PTPL in a related field; or a certificate from any institution recognised by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency, Education Ministry and PTPL in order to enrol in this two-and-ahalf-year programme.
Upon successful completion at the diploma level, students may seek employment or advance to the second year bachelor’s degree in the same field, or other related courses at Management and Science University (MSU) through the Faculty of Business Management and Professional Studies.
Besides the Diploma in Culinary Arts, students can choose other diploma and certificate programmes under the School of Hospitality and Culinary Arts such as Diploma in Tourism Management, Diploma in Hotel Management, Certificate in Tourism Management and Certificate in Catering & Hotel Operations.
