THE culi­nary in­dus­try is one of the most suc­cess­ful of the ser­vice in­dus­tries in Malaysia.

Look­ing at the na­ture of the hos­pi­tal­ity in­dus­try, the emer­gence of culi­nary tourism has seen rapid growth and this called for the need of skilled man­power in the hos­pi­tal­ity and tourism sec­tor of the coun­try.

PTPL Col­lege through its School of Hos­pi­tal­ity and Culi­nary Arts of­fers the Di­ploma in Culi­nary Arts.

The course is de­signed to equip stu­dents with ad­vanced skills in the culi­nary arts and a strong prod­uct knowl­edge. They would have the abil­ity to per­form and or­gan­ise food pro­duc­tion ac­cord­ing to es­tab­lished in­ter­na­tional stan­dards.

It pro­vides stu­dents with state-of-the-art tech­ni­cal skills in kitchen set-up and or­gan­i­sa­tion, food prod­uct knowl­edge, patis­serie, sen­so­rial anal­y­sis, menu de­vel­op­ment as well as food and bev­er­age man­age­ment.

This di­ploma pro­gramme pro­vides stu­dents with ba­sic culi­nary and spe­cialised skills in the area of food and man­age­ment.

It also de­vel­ops skills and ca­reer ad­vance­ment in the rapidly ex­pand­ing hos­pi­tal­ity and food ser­vice in­dus­try.

Stu­dents are equipped with gas­tro­nomic skills and knowl­edge on food prepa­ra­tion, safety and the pre­sen­ta­tion re­quired for en­try into the food ser­vice in­dus­try.

Stu­dents should pos­sess a pass in Si­jil Pe­la­jaran Malaysia with three cred­its in any sub­jects; or a pass cer­tifi­cate from PTPL in a re­lated field; or a cer­tifi­cate from any in­sti­tu­tion recog­nised by the Malaysian Qual­i­fi­ca­tions Agency, Ed­u­ca­tion Min­istry and PTPL in or­der to enrol in this two-and-ahalf-year pro­gramme.

Upon suc­cess­ful com­ple­tion at the di­ploma level, stu­dents may seek em­ploy­ment or ad­vance to the sec­ond year bach­e­lor’s de­gree in the same field, or other re­lated cour­ses at Man­age­ment and Sci­ence Univer­sity (MSU) through the Fac­ulty of Busi­ness Man­age­ment and Pro­fes­sional Stud­ies.

Be­sides the Di­ploma in Culi­nary Arts, stu­dents can choose other di­ploma and cer­tifi­cate pro­grammes un­der the School of Hos­pi­tal­ity and Culi­nary Arts such as Di­ploma in Tourism Man­age­ment, Di­ploma in Ho­tel Man­age­ment, Cer­tifi­cate in Tourism Man­age­ment and Cer­tifi­cate in Cater­ing & Ho­tel Op­er­a­tions.
