KDU University College’s recently introduced E3-Boosters initiative, which emphasises English Proficiency, EQ Development and Entrepreneurship, has gotten off to a great start.

When asked to share their thoughts on this new initiative, students from various courses agreed that the E3-Boosters have many benefits that will help enhance their employability.

Diploma in Mass Communication student Kong Shan Shan was among those who lauded KDU University College’s move.

“I understand the E3-Boosters’ importance in providing me with a holistic education experience,” she said.

Geneiva Pillai, who is taking up a culinary arts course, felt that her career prospects will be a lot brighter, thanks to the E3-Boosters.

“I am certain that the E3-Boosters will give me the right set of skills to not just function competently, but excel in my future career,” she said.

Matthew Chiam, another culinary arts student, was even more confident of his education institution and its initiative.

“KDU University College is already renowned in the culinary arts field and it produces a lot of outstanding students. With elements of the E3-Boosters being introduced into my programme, I’m certain that I will be able to secure a great job,” he said.

KDU University College launched the E3Boosters initiative late last year in response to the findings reported in the National Graduate Employability Survey 2012-2017 on the shortcomings of fresh graduates as experienced by employers.

According to the survey, almost 60% of employers have issues with graduates’ poor command of English; 40% have the opinion that they have poor character, attitude and personality, which are related to emotional intelligence; and 25% have issues with their problem-solving skills, which shows a lack of enterprising spirit in them.

Each of the three E3-Boosters components is widely incorporated into the curricula of KDU University College’s academic programmes and all its students are exposed to them. They are:

> English Proficiency – Mastery of English is no longer an option in today’s global environment. Students can improve their English proficiency at KDU University College and land their dream job.

> EQ Development – Being book smart is not enough. Emotional intelligence is essential. KDU University College will help students raise their EQ to complement their IQ.

> Entrepreneurship – KDU University College will bring out the spirit of entrepreneurship in students. This will help them stand out and be daring, innovative and adaptable.

At present, the higher learning institution enjoys a remarkable student employability rate of 95%.

Once the effects of the E3-Boosters come into play, the figures are expected to be more impressive.

In line with KDU University College’s mission of “Driving Dreams”, it is giving out RM6mil worth of scholarships to prospective and existing students who are high achievers.

With the E3-Boosters, KDU University College students would not have to settle for just any education. They can graduate with a special set of skills employers will need.
