Catching up with Sherlock
SHERLOCK starts with Dr John H Watson (Martin Freeman) meeting Sherlock Holmes (Benedict Cumberbatch) for the first time in the episode A Study In Pink.
Watson, an army doctor, laments to an old friend that he can’t afford a flat in London on his army pension; the latter tells him of a colleague who happens to be looking for a flatmate.
The two are introduced, and Holmes – a showoff – rattles off personal details about Watson (not all of them accurate, as it turns out). Although caught off guard that a stranger seems to know all these things about him, Watson is curious enough to check out the flat at 221B Baker Street. Just minutes after sitting down, Holmes brings him to a crime scene. And just like that, 20 minutes into the first episode, both Watson and the audience are hooked.
As long as Holmes doesn’t put your life under the microscope, what is there not to like about the world’s only consulting detective who is a high-functioning sociopath (and not a psychopath, thank you very much)?
