THE month of March will bring music to many ears, literally. From indie rock and K-pop to electronic dance music and hip hop, local music fans are spoiled for choice next month. Take your pick from a three-day music festival in Kuala Lumpur to a Yuna show all the way in Sungai Petani, Kedah. And if you’re worried about being broke by the end of the month, don’t worry. There’s a free concert happening as well.

Organised by property developer Eupe Corporation Berhad, this event is set to feature Mandopop sensation Wang Lee Hom sharing the stage alongside singer-songwriter Yuna, South Korean boyband U-Kiss and Taiwanese electro-pop singer Jeannie Hsieh. The event will also see performances by local acts like Najwa Latiff, Orange Tan, Da.Mon. Ster, Kah Jun and Mint G.

Formed in 2005, this five-piece band from England consists of vocalist Yannis Philippakis, drummer Jack Bevan. guitarist Jimmy Smith, bassist Walter Gervers and keyboardist Edwin Congreave. With three studio albums to their name and a solid reputation for being one of Britain’s best live acts in recent times, fans can expect a rocking good time. Canadian pop punk princess Avril Lavigne returns to Kuala Lumpur to promote the release of latest self-titled studio album. Lavigne, 29, will be performing new singles Let Me Go and Here’s To Never Growing Up. Of course, fans can also look forward to the petite singer belting out signature hits like Complicated, Sk8er Boi, I’m With You and My Happy Ending.

This concert by classical crossover group Il Divo is inspired by its successful week of performances at the Marquis Theatre in New York back in 2013. The multi-platinum selling quartet will performing iconic Broadway show tunes like The Lion King’s Can You Feel The Love Tonight, Memory from Cats and West Side Story’s Tonight. These songs and more are also featured on the group’s latest album Il Divo – Musical Affair: The Greatest Songs Of Broadway Live. The concert will also feature guest artiste Lea Salonga.

For the party animals out there, get set to roar in this jungle. Future Music Festival Asia 2014 kicks off on March 13 with performances by Deadmau5, Adventure Club, R3hab and Will Sparks. March 14 will see Armin Van Buuren takeover the festival with his A State Of Trance 650: New Horizons show. He’ll be joined by Markus Schulz and Paul Van Dyk. Then, the festival ends with a bang on March 15 with performances by Pharrell Williams, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Ghostface Killah and Raekwon of the Wu-Tang Clan, Yuna, Tinie Tempah and more.

Fans who have been waiting for Steve Vai to make another appearance in KL since the ill-fated Rentakasia music festival in 2000 are in for a treat. This time, the guitar virtuoso returns with his own concert. Expect to hear the former Whitesnake guitarist perform instrumental masterpieces like Tender Surrender, Juice, Whispering A Prayer and Lotus Feet.

Get set for the Petronas Malaysia Grand Prix weekend with this concert featuring vocal powerhouse Christina Aguilera, South Korean sensation Rain, 1980s crooner Rick Astley and singer-songwriter Craig David. Fans can also look out for performances by local acts Altimet, Oh Chentaku, Joe Flizzow and SonaOne. And the best part is, the concert is free.
