(Cinemax, astro Ch 412, 5pm) Older moviegoers like yours truly will fondly remember the days of Sensurround: deep bass sound, felt rather than heard, churned out by special huge-a$$ speakers. Only five films (two weren’t even bona fide movies, but TV episode compilations) ever utilised it: earthquake, Midway, the theatrical releases of battlestar Galactica and MissionGalactica:Cylonattack, and this 1977 production revolving around a psychopath who sabotages amusement parks. Without the gimmicky sound, it’s actually an interesting little thriller with a cast that includes George Segal, Susan Strasberg, Henry Fonda, richard Widmark and a young Helen Hunt. The producers deliberately kept the villain’s motives and identity a mystery to make him seem more terrifying and unsympathetic. Timothy bottoms, who plays the bad guy, is credited only as “young Man”. The following year, the Village People immortalised him in the opening line of yMCa.Kidding.
