Leg­endary baroque com­poser Han­del’s works to an­chor two lo­cal clas­si­cal pro­duc­tions.

BAROQUE com­poser Ge­orge Frid­eric Han­del is a pop­u­lar con­cert choice in th­ese parts.

En­sem­ble Vi­rama’s Travers­ing The Baroque, which takes place at De­ciso, Ban­dar Sri Da­mansara in Kuala Lumpur on March 12, will be cel­e­brat­ing the mu­sic of the 17th and 18th cen­turies.

The first half of the pro­gramme ex­plores the mu­sic of Han­del and Henry Pur­cell, two eclec­tic com­posers.

Han­del’s Ar­rival Of The Queen Of Sheba Sin­fo­nia From Solomon HWV67 sits proud on the con­cert list.

So­prano Ang Mei Foong will per­form a se­lec­tion of Arias from this Han­del piece, while oboist Howard Ng will per­form Han­del’s Oboe Con­certo In G Mi­nor.

The se­cond part of the pro­gramme will fea­ture pi­anist Loo Bang Hean, who will per­form Joseph Haydn’s D Ma­jor Pi­ano Con­certo. The con­cert will be lead by Dr An­drew Filmer.

Else­where, the world’s most pop­u­lar choral work, Han­del’s Mes­siah, re­turns to the Klang Val­ley stage.

This pro­duc­tion, pre­sented by Grace Con­ven­tion Cen­tre looks set to be pos­si­bly the most pro­fes­sional stag­ing of Mes­siah ever per­formed in Malaysia.

Four soloists ( Ang Mei Foong, Jin Hin Yap, Mak Chi Hoe and Gabrielle Maes), the 38- piece Or­ches­tra 1685 and the 40- strong Han­del Fes­ti­val Singers are com­ing to­gether un­der the ba­ton of award- win­ning Bri­tish com­poser and con­duc­tor Paul M Baker for two per­for­mances on March 18- 19 ( 8pm shows).

The shows will take place at Grace Con­ven­tion Cen­tre, Au­di­to­rium Level 3, Plaza Mayang in Pe­tal­ing Jaya.

Dr An­drew Filmer, the renowned baroque string spe­cial­ist has been re­tained as baroque string con­sul­tant. Mak Chi Hoe, in ad­di­tion to singing the role of bass soloist is also the cho­rus mas­ter of the Han­del Fes­ti­val Singers.
