ALLERGENS such as dust mites, pollen, dyes and strong scents can cause allergic reactions that run from itchy skin to runny noses.

If you’re sensitive, here are some ideas that can help reduce triggers.

1. Curtains and blinds trap dust. You can opt for plastic blinds or easily cleaned items that can be washed in the machine every week, but also consider getting rid of them altogether and using window film for privacy.

There are lots of choices, just make sure you buy one that will give you full- time privacy no matter what is the light level.

2. Buy anti- allergen covers for your mattress, pillows and sofa cushions.

Also be sure to put out your cushions and pillows in the sun regularly to kill spores that drift in through open doors and windows.

3. Mites and moulds thrive in the damp so a dehumidifier is a good investment.
