The Star Malaysia - Star2 - - COURSE FOCUS -

THE most sought- after career paths considered by school- leavers within tertiary education are usually within the field of business.

Whether one aspires to be an entrepreneur, manager who makes critical decisions, financier or business strategist, a business degree will open up a wide range of career choices to meet the individual interest of students.

Skills such as management, administration, finance, accounting and marketing can be used to meet various industry demands, regardless of its size or sector.

A business degree will give graduates and emerging professionals a solid foundation and the training needed to help them excel in the competitive business world.

Fully accredited by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency ( MQA), First City University College ( First City UC)’ s Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences offers programmes that are relevant to the needs of the industry that will enhance the employability of its graduates.

At First City UC, students can expect an affordable education delivered by a highly qualified team of dedicated lecturers who are equipped with a range of teaching and commercial industry experience.

The programmes, which offer conceptual and skill- based learning, are also complemented with the availability of state- of- theart facilities such as computer laboratories, a library with e- library facilities and electronic databases that provide excellent support to students in accessing academic information throughout their studies.

Students also stand to gain more knowledge via lectures delivered by visiting professors and guest speakers from the industry, which can help broaden the scope of their subject knowledge and enlighten students on how the business world works.

There will also be field trips, research and consultancy projects organised to extend students’ learning experience beyond the confines of the classroom.

Apart from the specific subject areas within the programmes, there is the inculcation of soft skills, which will prepare graduates in meeting industry demands by having not only appropriate qualifications, but also requisite skills in working with people in any type of organisation.

Skills such as communication, problem- solving, teamwork and collaboration can be developed and enhanced, in line with the university college’s goal of producing excellent and wellrounded graduates.
