Developing the artist within

The Star Malaysia - Star2 - - EDUCATION & FURTHER STUDIES FAIR -

DERIVED from German philosophy, “Dasein” ( da: za- in) has timelessly inspired philosophers, artists, writers and creative thinkers alike to discover and redefine one’s true being and existence.

With that ideal in mind, Dasein Academy of Art was established in 1996 by a team of avid educators and professionals from the art and design industry. It aspires to revive the role of a future generation dedicated to the creative and cultural development for personal enrichment.

A quote by German psychologist and sociologist Erich Fromm, “People are born equal, but they are also born different”, has since become the academic hallmark of Dasein Academy of Art.

The craft of imagination is about training the creative minds of individual talents, for great artists bear the timeless imprint of identity in his or her masterpiece.

Driven by this ingenuity, Dasein believes that the education for art and design is more than a mere skill or job market- oriented curriculum.

It is through the path of creative thinking and aesthetic learning that one discovers the beauty of one’s existence and that is a fulfilment of a lifetime.

Over the years of advocating individual distinction, Dasein Academy of Art has developed a unique set of teaching principles called edu- mentoring.

As the word suggests, Dasein Academy of Art has incorporated two key ingredients into its syllabus for developing young minds: teaching plus mentoring to provide a more personalised approach for each and every teaching learning relationship.

After all, it is through the guidance in selfdiscovery that the hidden gem of self- value can be unearthed. Self- value starts from personal virtues.

Contrary to most mass teaching institutions, Dasein Academy insists on small- scale classes by limiting them to 15 to 25 students per class.

Part of the methodology in edu- mentoring, which enables personalised guidance, allows students to uncover their niche virtues with better attention and results.

A substantial result of edu- mentoring is seen over the years, as Dasein graduates consistently achieve high employment rate at 95% after three months of graduation.

This proves the efforts of Dasein in cultivating accomplished and sustainable professionals are recognised by the creative industry.

Dasein strives to foster knowledge sharing and creative enlightenment, inviting artists and scholars from around the world to host academic forums and talks, and providing a platform for students and speakers to uncover inspiring insights that fuel the creative process.

Dasein believes in the fundamentals of good creative education.

It aims to provide the right kind of learning environment and tools that not only produce skilled designers, but who can think, innovate and create.

The time has come to rediscover creativity, to see things differently, and for the Dasein student to start a journey in Dasein.

Dasein Academy of Art offers full- time diploma courses in Graphic Design, Illustration, Fine Art, Animation, Digital Media and Mass Communication.
