Yuen to di­rect kung fu com­edy

YUEN Woo- ping, the mar­tial arts chore­og­ra­pher of The Matrix tril­ogy, will take the di­rec­tor’s chair for a kung fu com­edy ti­tled Hand Over Fist. A co- pro­duc­tion with Hong Kong’s Em­peror Mo­tion Pic­tures tak­ing the lead, the film sees its mod­ern- day pro­tag­o­nists swept into a 600- year feud be­tween ri­valling mar­tial arts masters from yes­ter­year.

Shoot­ing is ex­pected to be­gin later this year. Other co- pro­duc­tion part­ners and the cast are to be con­firmed.

This is the first time Em­peror col­lab­o­rated with Yuen, who re­cently di­rected Crouch­ing Tiger, Hid­den Dragon: Sword Of Des­tiny, some 16 years af­ter chore­ograph­ing the ac­tion scenes of the Os­car- win­ning Crouch­ing Tiger, Hid­den Dragon.

Yuen, of­ten re­ferred to as the Mas­ter, has nu­mer­ous other cred­its on lead­ing fight films. Th­ese in­clude ac­tion di­rec­tor on cur­rent hit Ip Man 3, as­sis­tant di­rec­tor and ac­tion chore­og­ra­pher on Fear­less ( star­ring Jet Li), and ac­tion chore­og­ra­pher on Wong Kar- wai's The Grand­mas­ter. – Reuters
