DO you know that in 2009, Michael Shannon was nominated for an Oscar for a supporting role in Revolutionary Road? Well, we didn’t realise this. He also appeared in five seasons of HBO’s
Boardwalk Empire. To be honest, most of us only took notice of the 41- year- old when he played General Zod in the 2013 film Man Of Steel. Shannon has been acting since the 1990s – at the age of 19, he had a minor role in Groundhog Day. Since then, he has constantly lent his talent to both indie films and big-budgeted flicks. This year alone, the prolific actor has 12 projects lined up. One of them is Midnight Special, directed by Jeff Nichols ( Mud). The drama sees him playing a father to a boy with magical powers. Next up, Shannon portrays Elvis Presley in the film Elvis & Nixon, which details the time when the famed singer visited the White House and meets with the president ( played by Kevin Spacey in the film). On Roger-Ebert. com, Shannon shares what guides his decision to be in a film. “People are always like, ‘ What’s your dream role?’ I don’t have a dream role. I just want to meet people that I think are interesting. It’s about the people to me. I’m not pining away to play Hamlet. I don’t really care. It’s the people that inspire me.” –
Midnight Special is scheduled to open at cinemas on April 14.
