PRODUCERS Johnnie To and yau nai Hoi hired three directors – Frank Hui, Jevons Au and Vicky Wong – to collaborate on this thriller, which focuses on three criminals reinventing themselves in the year 1997 ( when British- ruled Hong Kong was returned to China). In the roles of the three kings of thieves are Jordan Chan, richie ren and Gordon Lam. Chan’s character is an intelligent criminal who is also flamboyant and arrogant. ren plays a baddie who earns a reputation after robbing several gold shops using an AK- 47. And Lam’s character is kind of a chameleon with one too many identities. In the film’s production notes, provided by GSC Cinemas, it is revealed that each director focused on one character. Director Hui’s focus fell on Chan’s role, Kwai Ching Hung. “The director was so enthusiastic that he wrote an 8,000- word description of the character I play,” Chan said of his director. “I like working with new directors. We have rapport. I hope Johnnie To’s support of newcomers in this film will reignite Hong Kong filmmakers’ passion both behind and in front of the camera, and bring back the glorious day of Hong Kong cinema.”
