Outstanding A- Levels results
THE July 2014 cohort of students at Kolej Yayasan UEM ( KYUEM) obtained exceptional results at Cambridge A- Level.
Ninety per cent of grades achieved were at A*- B while 71% of grades gained were at A* or A. Twenty- five per cent of students secured at least four A grades at A- Levels and 57% of students gained at least three A grades.
Forty- one per cent of grades obtained were A*.
According to the headmaster, Dr Paul Rogers, “We continue to achieve magnificent results at A- Levels, which enable our students to enter some of the finest universities in the world. They are well taught, but most importantly, they have a real desire to excel. We are privileged to aid their success year on year.”
Seven students with offers from Cambridge University and one from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology account for the highest achievements of the current cohort.
Other top- rated universities from the US and the UK are also well represented; 25% of the students gained at least three grades at A*.
KYUEM students are required to undertake the Cambridge International Examinations, internationally renowned as a leading European awarding body for those wishing to enter worldclass universities.
Every year, KYUEM’s results compare favourably with top British independent schools.
Moreover, it is important to bear in mind that the mother tongue of most of KYUEM’s students is not English.
Over and above examination success, KYUEM aims to provide a holistic form of education by incorporating an impressive range of extracurricular and sporting activities.
Such endeavour bodes well for the students’ future careers as they will graduate with a multitude of skills derived from an extensive leisure and social programme.
These include the ability to communicate effectively, collaborate in teams, practise leadership and acquire the maturity demanded of aspiring young people today.
Most KYUEM students aim to study overseas, predominantly in the UK.
Among the most popular choices in the UK, after Oxford and Cambridge, are the Imperial College and Queen Mary College London, the London School of Economics, University College London, Warwick, Bristol, Manchester as well as Edinburgh.
There is also a growing number of student who choose to study in the United States and Australia.
Destinations preferred by this year’s students include Princeton University, University of California, Los Angeles, University of California, Berkeley and the University of Pennsylvania in the US.
In Australia, universities such as Melbourne University and the University of New South Wales gain popularity among KYUEM students.
There is a significant minority who continue their studies in Ireland or opt for one of the British campuses in Malaysia.
Trinity College ( Dublin), University College Cork and Royal College of Surgeons are among the popular schools in Ireland beside a range of top- class medical schools in British universities.
The majority of the students with offers from prestigious institutions had amply fulfilled their entry requirements, obtained first- class honours degrees and move on to enjoy a successful academic career.
These academic achievements reinforce KYUEM’s position as a leading pre- university college in South- East Asia.
However, KYUEM believes that its two- year or 18- month education programme is not just about achieving success for A- Levels; it prepares students for adult life.
KYUEM welcomes talented students with excellent academic records and outstanding co- curricular backgrounds to apply for the January 2017 intake.
The application opens from Oct 22 until Nov 25.
KYUEM’s Open Day will be held on Oct 22, from 10.15am to 2pm, at its campus in Lembah Beringin.
