Colourful and artistic showcase
THE Mid- Autumn Festival is a time when families traditionally get together to celebrate the abundance of a good harvest, relishing mooncakes over fragrant tea under a full moon.
This year, the celebration in Cheras Leisure Mall is inspired by the Chinese lantern zou ma deng, a uniquely handcrafted lantern that represents the ingenuity of Chinese tradition.
The zou ma deng are enlivened with the drawings and paintings on the lantern’s wooden panels by children, adding childlike imaginations to the festivities.
These artworks showcase the children’s artistic talent and ideation to present the Mid- Autumn of their heart.
The masterpieces were submitted by over 300 children of ages 10 to 12 years through the drawing contest, “A Colourful MidAutumn Festival”, and will be displayed until Sept 18 at the Ground Floor Concourse and Level 2 Link Bridge. To catch the young artists in action, join the Prize Presentation Ceremony that will be held on Sept 17 at 11am, where cash vouchers worth RM20,000 will be given away to the winners.
In conjunction with Merdeka Day and Malaysia Day, two 70ft long murals with Merdeka- inspired creation are displayed at the Level 1 Link Bridge until Sept 18.
Added to that is a variety of programmes planned for the festivities, which include Nick Chung and Stella Chung album promo and I Melody mini concert this Sunday ( Sept 4), Family Reunion Mid- Autumn Celebration 2016 on Sept 11 and Chinese Cultural Show on Sept 17.
Contribute to a good cause by participating in the Astro Kita Sama Blood Donation Drive held at Level 2 concourse this weekend ( Sept 3 and 4) from 10am to 6pm.
For handicraft lovers, partake in the mall’s DIY workshops and have fun while you learn to make mooncake- shaped soaps and mooncakes this Sunday ( Sept 3) and Sept 10, respectively.
