Prep school for pre-U students

-

KOLEJ Yayasan UEM (KYUEM) specialises in university preparation via Cambridge International Examinations and is a wholly residential, co-educational college.

Students who have completed SPM or IGCSE examinations at the highest level are welcome. The beautiful 50-acre (20.23ha) college campus is located about 70km from Kuala Lumpur and enables students to develop their skills in a serene and peaceful environment, which lends itself to study, contemplation and the pursuit of academic excellence. KYUEM unquestionably provides ideal preparation and training necessary for entry into the world’s top universities.

The college boasts a world-class record of A-Level success that has been improving year on year. In 2016, 90% of students obtained A-Level grades A*-B; 71% obtained A* or A, while 57% gained at least three A grades at CIE A-Level.

These are world-class results that rival the best international colleges and KYUEM is proud that its students gain places in the finest global universities year on year. Twelve students gained either “Best in the World” or “Best in Malaysia” awards from the Cambridge International Examinations Board.

So far, this year seems destined to build or even improve on this success. Students have already received 11 provisional offers of places at Oxford and Cambridge. This is the time of year when students start receiving such offers from universities to which they have applied – offers are coming in from all over the UK, plus for the first from the US from Princeton University.

The point is made to parents and visitors that the college is preparing students for independent life at university and, therefore, one of the most important skills to acquire is getting the right work-and-leisure balance. KYUEM encourages a wealth of sporting and cultural activities to provide holistic education, and help young people make the right choices to achieve a good work-life balance.

Accommodation in a boarding school is a key factor in students’ well-being. KYUEM students are housed in chalets, villas and apartments, not dormitories. This allows them more independence and privacy and encourages the kind of social and soft skills necessary for people to live and work together.

The facilities are constantly being reviewed and improved. On a remote campus, good security is essential. Not only is the whole site patrolled by security guards round-the-clock, there is also a network of 80-plus CCTV cameras.

Teamwork and competitiveness is fostered at KYUEM by belonging to one of four houses – Diamond, Sapphire, Topaz and Garnet. Most sports and cultural competitions are house-based, further developing a communal spirit of cooperation and commitment.

After spending time here, students seldom say a final goodbye. There is a thriving alumni association through which past students liaise with current ones and are able to give help and advice about living and studying abroad.

Students with excellent academic records and outstanding co-curricular backgrounds are welcome to apply for the July 2017 intake. Application should reach KYUEM by April 25.

The KYUEM Open Day will be held on March 4 and April 15 between 10.15am and 2pm at its campus in Lembah Beringin.
