Be a trained medical lab technologist

The Star Malaysia - Star2 - - Education Guide -

MALAYSIA is currently seeing increasing demand in the area of Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT).

Career opportunities with MLT await graduates in industries such as hospitals, clinics, public health laboratories, pharmaceutical or chemical industries, biotechnology companies, veterinary clinics, public or private research laboratories, colleges and universities, transplant and blood donor centres and fertility clinics.

Even though medical laboratory technologists do not often get involved with patients, they have a crucial role in the process of providing personal care.

It is a great occupation for highly organised persons who can perform research that helps unravel the mysteries of the human body.

The D iploma in Medical Laboratory Technology offered by MSU College is designed for students who are interested in scientific discoveries and medical research.

Well-balanced diploma programme

It prepares students with a well-balanced diploma programme comprising academic knowledge with hands-on practical skills that will enhance student’s knowledge and skills.

The programme is a comprehensive educational experience with training and education at all levels of laboratory medicine including Hematology, Microbiology, Parasitology, Transfusion Medicine, Cytology, and Chemical Pathology.

The three-year programme aims to produce medical laboratory technologist who are competent and capable to meet the human capital needs of the country.

Medical laboratory technologists use their knowledge to perform tests that help physicians diagnose, monitor and treat diseases, identify the source of infection and chemical analysis. They can also determine the patient's blood type and prep them for transfusion.

Technologists also provide numerous diagnostic and therapeutic information that are useful to the health care team.

Holistic learning

MSU College students will experience a holistic learning experience, to build soft skills and critical thinking that is req uired for a successful technologist.

The curriculum combines knowledge of integrated education, health and education science lab.

This is to produce versatile medical laboratory technologists who have adeq uate knowledge and skills.

Upon completion, students may proceed to a bachelor programme at Management & Science University (MSU)through the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences (FHLS)or International Medical School (IMS).

Another opportunity for students is the progression to the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS)programme through IMS either in Shah Alam campus or in MSU offshore campus in Bangalore, India.
