Colossal

The Star Malaysia - Star2 - - Movies -

THE best thing about this monstercomedy flick is the sense of satisfaction you get at seeing an underdog overcome his/her bully.

In this case, Anne Hathaway’s Gloria, an unemployed alcoholic with the (bad) luck of running into men who think she needs saving. But really, these men – a verballyabusive Dan Stevens and a psychotic Jason Sudeikis – are really the ones who need all the help they can get.

Apart from finding out she can control a kaiju in South Korea, Gloria also learns she can break out of her bad funk by taking charge of her own life.

And that is all the superhero-ism you need in life... be your own hero.

Colossal can drag a little bit too long but it pays off well at the end.

Sudeikis gives a frighteningly great performance as the creepy “nice” guy who wants to be more than friends. Plus you can’t help but root for loser Hathaway, whose performance reminds me of a grown-up Mia from The Princess Diaries. – Angelin Yeoh
