IT was announced in December last year that Coach took on Selena Gomez as its new face. Well, here is a look at the multi-talented singer in her first advertising campaign for the brand.

Gomez, portrayed as the Coach girl about to embark on a road trip, lounges in a 1976 Plymouth Fury. The vintage car is a recurring reference, symbolising the freedom and endless possibility of the open road.

Gomez is a big fan of the brand, or so she says. In an interview transcript released exclusivelyto Star2, she states that Coach was actually one of her first designer purchases.

“Where I’m from in Texas, Coach is the must-have brand. I remember saving up with my cousin, Priscilla, to get matching wallets,” points out the 24-year-old pop superstar.

Gomez notes that seeing creative director Stuart Vevers’ vision come full circle is something special. The experience of having shot in the Autumn 2017 campaign – after attending the show – is “pretty surreal” for her.

“Steven Meisel is a legend so it was an honour to work with him for the first time. I’d say the vibe was very laid back,” she

explains, regarding her experience of working with the famed photographer.

Coach worked with a large team of fashion collaborators too. Apart from Meisel, the shoot featured styling by Karl Templer, creative direction by Fabien Baron, makeup by Pat McGrath and hair by Guido Palau.

On her style, Gomez says it depends on the mood of the day. She also explains that the way she dresses has evolved over the years, but it still remains classic at the same time.

“My favourite Autumn piece is a cropped shearling jacket. It will look cute dressed down, with a pair of vintage jeans. The embroidered dress I was wearing in the Swagger campaign image is so fun too. I love the bow detailing!”

Gomez also claims Coach has made her feel like family since day one. She loves having the opportunity to grow creatively by working on design collaborations, as well as reaching out to girls through the brand’s charity foundation.

With the launch of the Autumn collection, Coach will also reveal short films dedicated to the key bags of the season: Rogue, Swagger and Edie. Each stars Gomez getting ready in a New York City apartment for a night on the town.
