Masterchef Australia Season Nine
EVEN though the format of this reality cooking show hasn’t changed much over the years (i.e. same old, same old), I find myself watching every episode (yes, five days a week, every week).
What’s most amazing about the show is how the contestants – and they’re all home cooks – seem to have recipes they can pull out from the top of their heads at a minute’s notice. How do they do that? Measurements too? Every week? That’s incredible.
It’s also admirable how they think on their feet. Sure, sometimes the dishes fall flat but that’s reality, right?
This season my two favourites are the Malaysian girls Sarah Tiong and Diana Chan. Not only are they strong cooks, they stick close to their heritage presenting dishes that speak of their culture and upbringing. I hope they win.
There are things about the show that annoy me. A lot. One main thing is the way the judges fawn over the contestants. I am sure they’re all good cooks but to compare them to established, even Michelin star chefs? Also, what’s it with everyone making ice-cream dishes for every challenge. Is ice cream Australia’s national dessert? – S. Indramalar
