It’s strange how some really good movies can slip under the radar, largely ignored by cinema going audiences. Cinderella Man is one of these movies, a rare gem of a film that somehow went unnoticed and didn’t perform well at the box office (although it was eventually nominated for a few Academy Awards). The film is based on the true story of boxer James J. Braddock and his remarkable win over reigning heavyweight champion Max Bauer in 1935. Braddock faced extreme poverty during the Great Depression and became a national sensation when his rags-to-riches story became public knowledge. The film stars Russell Crowe, Paul Giamatti, Renee Zellweger and Rosemarie DeWitt (Braddock’s real-life granddaughter).
