The Star Malaysia - Star2 - - Education Guide -

ENGLISH is the language of business; in a globalised world, where money and trade flows across borders, a good command of the language is essential.

A recent report by the Economist Intelligence Unit titled “The English Effect”, stated that executives in charge of multinational companies such as Heineken, Samsung and Renault believe that in the near future, over 50% of their workforce will need to speak English.

In Malaysia, many people already use English at work.

But how many can honestly say they would not benefit from improving? Perhaps you need English to communicate with colleagues in other countries?

Maybe you need more confidence speaking English on the phone? Does your boss ask you to make presentations to the team, but afterwards, you often feel you need something more to get your message across?

What about meetings? How can you make your voice heard?

These are all common issues, and ones the British Council are aware of. For that, the British Council’s flexible, dynamic English course called MyClass can provide help.

MyClass allows its course takers to choose their lesson theme, as well as the time of their class so they can fit your learning around your busy schedule. MyClass gives you the crucial edge over the competition, with essential phrases and expressions to land that perfect job.

> Phone calls – talking on the phone in another language is notoriously tricky.

MyClass will provide you with strategies and plenty of practice at getting your point across with clarity to colleagues, suppliers and customers on the telephone.

> Meetings – these can be daunting, especially if they aren’t held in your own language.

Make people sit up and listen; Give yourself the language and the techniques to communicate your opinions and get your points across in meetings with an English for the workplace MyClass lesson.

> Presentations – not many people enjoy speaking in front of a crowd.

Course takers can be confident that with MyClass, they will learn the best way to “wow” their audience and leave them wanting more.

These subjects, among many others, make up the MyClass experience.

In every lesson course takers have the the chance to put what they have learnt into practice, as well as to receive relevant feedback showing their improvements and the areas they need to work on.
